Midrex Recognized at 2026 Mayor’s International Community Awards

Midrex Technologies, Inc. is proud to announce that we have been named the Foreign-owned Firm – Large Company category winner at the 28th Mayor’s International Community Awards (MICA), hosted by the City of Charlotte Mayor’s Office in collaboration with Charlotte Economic Development and the Charlotte International Cabinet (CIC).

The awards ceremony took place on Wednesday, May 20, bringing together leaders from across the region to celebrate organizations and individuals making a lasting international and philanthropic impact in Charlotte.

For more than 50 years, Midrex has proudly called Charlotte home while supporting steel producers across 20+ countries. As a global leader in cleaner ironmaking, we remain focused on delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that contribute to lower-emissions steel production worldwide.

At the same time, we are deeply committed to strengthening the communities where we live and work. This recognition reflects the dedication of our teammates, who give their time, talent and resources to causes that make a meaningful difference.

Over the years, Midrex and its employees have contributed millions of dollars in charitable giving and thousands of volunteer hours annually. Our support spans a wide range of organizations across the Charlotte region, including Holy Angels of Belmont, Make-A-Wish Central & Western North Carolina, International House, TreesCharlotte, the Japanese Association of Charlotte, Blood Cancer United, Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Veterans Bridge Home, and Carolina Breast Friends.

 

Additional Award Recipients

The MICA Awards recognize foreign-owned firms, individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the Charlotte region’s international community.

In addition to Midrex, this year’s honorees included:

  • Premix Group (Medium Company Category), a Finland-based manufacturer expanding its U.S. presence with a new facility in nearby Dallas, North Carolina.
  • Rosenberg USA Inc. (Small Company Category), a Germany-based company supporting innovation, education and community initiatives in the region.

Individual award recipients were also recognized for their leadership and global impact:

  • Pat Martinez, recipient of the Richard Vinroot International Achievement Award, for her decades of leadership and community engagement.
  • Polly Outhey and Ali Bouasavatdy, recipients of the CIC International Entrepreneur Award, for their work advancing financial literacy and empowering communities.
  • Saya Sio, recipient of the Global Leader Award, for her international humanitarian work through the Annie T. Doe Memorial Foundation.

 

About the Mayor’s International Community Awards

Since 1988, the Mayor’s International Community Awards have honored organizations and individuals whose contributions enhance Charlotte’s global connections and strengthen its diverse international community. Award recipients are selected through a competitive nomination and review process led by a committee, with final decisions made by the mayor.
