Since 1974, Midrex has been committed to doing our part to strengthen our community, represent our corporate values publicly, and provide our employees an opportunity to connect with the causes that matter to them.

Today, dozens of local nonprofit organizations benefiting cancer, children, and veterans will continue to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars through our charitable contributions.

Our community engagement initiatives are grounded in our core values of integrity, commitment, teamwork, quality, and innovation. Through our various programs, we are able to give back through annual giving in the local community, employee-requested charitable giving, and team volunteer grants.

Our Purpose is to Love and Serve Others

Our Story

Our Keystone Charity: Blood Cancer United

Giving back to our communities and to people in them who need support is part of who we are at Midrex. Every year, we volunteer our time, talents, and other resources to help make life a little brighter in keeping with our pledge to love and serve others. Our partnership with Blood Cancer United allows us to honor Shohei Manabe, a pillar of support and leadership at Midrex for over 25 years.

In his numerous executive roles with Kobe Steel, Ltd., Shohei has supported Midrex through multiple industry cycles, achievement of numerous company milestones, and the commissioning of 56 modules around the world. Having spent over 40 years at Kobe Steel, Shohei’s guidance has been invaluable to Midrex in our journey to success.

In January 2012, Shohei received news that would change his life forever. At a doctor’s appointment, Shohei was diagnosed with Malignant Lymphoma and was advised to begin treatment immediately. He knew the road ahead was not going to be easy, but Shohei was prepared to fight. After 8 months of intense treatment, Shohei was declared cancer-free. It was his strength, perseverance, and community of support that led him through this difficult time.

Blood Cancer United is dedicated to extending and improving lives across the blood cancer community. Since 1949, they’ve helped drive tremendous progress so that some blood cancers can now be cured and others can be managed as long-term chronic conditions. They measure progress not only by cures, but also by the people who are able to live longer, more active lives after a blood cancer diagnosis. Blood Cancer United advances this mission by seeking new ideas, funding science, and bringing together experts and innovations to accelerate progress; protecting access to high-quality, affordable health coverage and supporting funding for vital research into new and better treatments; providing support to patients, survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals; and developing new programs and research focused on survivorship, caregiving, clinical trials, equitable access to care, and quality of life.

Midrex pledges to continuously explore various ways to support the work of Blood Cancer United — from DIY fundraisers to participation in organized events including the Student Visionaries of the Year leadership development program and Light the Night, a community walk to honor and remember those who have been touched by cancer. Our commitment to Blood Cancer United will ensure that Shohei’s inspiring story will live on at Midrex for years to come.
