ArcelorMittal Texas HBI recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of operational excellence and continuous improvement in Portland, Texas. Since startup in 2016, the 2.0 million-ton-per-year facility has become a leading producer of high-quality hot briquetted iron (HBI), supporting lower-carbon Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking through natural gas-based direct reduction technology.
The facility reached a major milestone in September 2025 by setting a world monthly HBI production record. The facility also maintained strong performance throughout the year, with 2025 production exceeding 90% of the annual record achieved in 2023. Over the past decade, the plant has demonstrated clear and sustained improvements in natural gas consumption efficiency, further strengthening its competitiveness and sustainability.
