Process Options and Flexibility
MIDREX® Plants provide a wide range of options, from module capacity to product form, that allow users to create the plant best suited for their project and site-specific requirements. In addition, there is flexibility regarding energy sources, reducing gas, oxygen usage, feedstock and utilities.
Capacity
Midrex has the widest range of capacity options from the 0.3 Mtpy MINIMOD® to our SUPER MEGAMOD®, producing over 2 Mtpy. This provides greater flexibility for the needs of captive DRI use or merchant sale. The smaller modules can feed a single EAF. The SUPER MEGAMOD® is well-suited to feed two EAFs and two slab casters to replace a blast furnace / BOF complex.
Utilities
The standard MIDREX® Process is proven to be highly energy efficient. Additional options are available to reduce electricity consumption and costs. In areas where fresh water is scarce, sea water heat exchangers can be installed to minimize make-up water requirements.
